22nd July 2019 - Information regarding Executive Officer positions

To all members of Northern Pétanque

This is a notice well in advance of the AGM in October to advise Northern members that a number of current Executive Officers
have declared that they will not be seeking re-election at the AGM.

Members can of course be nominated for any of the EO posts but we know definitely that nominations will be needed for the positions of
President, Vice President, Membership Secretary, Playing Officer and Development Officer.

Nominations for any regional officer position may be put forward by any Northern registered club.
Candidates may also be nominated by a minimum of three individual members.

This is not a call for nominations but advance warning of the positions that will need filling.
The formal call for nominations will be published nearer to the AGM.
However if anyone would like to register an interest, or would like more information, without any commitment at this stage, in any of the posts then please let me know.

Would all club secretaries please draw their members attention to this as I may not have email address' for every Northern member.

Kind regards

Roy Henstock
Secretary Northern Pétanque

31st May 2019 - World Junior Championships

Following his 3rd selection into the National Youth A Squad earlier this season in his last year as a junior,
and following three representative trips to France over the past 2 years,
Davy Blyton (16) has now achieved his goal of making this year’s world championships team.
Davy has worked hard on his game in the past few years, benefiting hugely from playing with his dad and Lee Edgar
as team 1 in last year’s Inter-Regionals, in which he also came 3rd in the National Youth tir de precision,
and having Lee as a mentor throughout 2018.
Being part of the NYS has been a considerable commitment, with monthly training activities and 4 trips to the Chiltern Region so far in 2019.
For his efforts and commitment, he will now play with his new team in the Maaseiker festival in Belgium in August (singles-doubles-Triples)
in preparation for the big one in Cambodia in November. The region wishes his every success.

11 January 2019 - Membership Renewals

Membership renewals both for individual players and for clubs are now due.
Petanque England members should have had a reminder direct from PE.
We realise that in winter Petanque is not a top priority for everyone
so your last years membership will allow you to log on to the Northern website up to the 31st March.
However you cannot use privileges such as the option to book into summer tournaments until you have renewed.

6 August 2018 - Facilities at Huddersfield

Roy Henstock has sent the following on behalf of Huddersfield PC.

Huddersfield PC have for some time been trying to improve our club house at Greenhead Park.
We have at last received both planning permission and a lease to construct a new and bigger shed next to our existing small one.
We have secured funding/help to do the needed groundwork and now need to raise about £5000 to purchase the shed.
We have launched a JustGiving appeal where donations can be made at
and people can also donate to our PayPal account at

18 February 2018 - Hayling accommodation

UPDATE 27 February

We were allocated a number of chalets of various types.
These chalets have all now been booked.
We are allowed to put a limited number of players on a chalet waiting list but we will not know until early May whether or not we will get extra chalets.
I think that we will get some but not enough to cover all of our players.
The sooner players names go on the waiting list the more chance there is that we will get extra chalets.

Caravans are available and can be booked now directly with IOW Tours, they do not form part of the block booking

End of Update

I have now received some details of the way booking of accommodation at Hayling is going to work this year.
I need to clarify some points with IOW tours but what is clear is that some chalets of different types have been allocated to Northern.

The chalet options will be double, twin, quad (3 or 4 adults in 2 rooms), quad DBL (2 or 3 adults in double room and bunk bed), single (very limited).
We have not done block booking before but it looks like there is going to be a lot of guesswork needed because I have to confirm numbers well before our qualifiers finish.

If you know now what accomodation you would like please let me know as soon as possible
Also please let me know if you intend to stay at Parkdean in the caravans.
You can book those directly with IOW tours starting now but I need to know because it will affect our requirements.
Individuals cannot book at Mill Rythe until after May 1st when the regional allocations have been sorted out.

As far as I know at the moment our regional allocation will not allow me to include Northern members who are not squad members.

Northern members contact details

It is a common occurrence for me to receive an email or a phone call from a Northern member requesting contact details for another Northern member.
With Sue's on going health problems I no longer have time to deal with this kind of request.
The website has the facility to show contact details but it will only do this for Northern members and only for those that have entered contact details of their own.

To enter your own contact details go to Players and Clubs then Edit your details.
When you have entered your details you can use the show contact details option when viewing players lists.

Failing this please contact the members club rather than me.
