Norman Hagyard who was a founder member of the Fox and the Honorary President of the Fox this year has died aged 76 following a long illness.
Norman's funeral is on Friday 23rd October at 10.30am at Stockton On Forest church.

23/9/09 Northern at the Inter Regional Championships

A disastrous weekend for Northern saw the region demoted to division 2 after 4 years of finishing in the top half of division 1.
The Sunday results were adequate with 24 wins from 5 rounds and this would have been good enough for at least mid table but it followed the terrible score of 17 wins from 7 rounds on Saturday which was about half of the score we achieved in each of the last 4 years.
Far too many senior teams did not perform to the standard they or the region would have expected.
The juniors are exempt from the criticism because although they would have liked to win more, they performed above expectation against far more experienced teams.

Why the squad underperformed is not obvious but if there are any lessons to be learned we will have to make sure we learn them in time to win division 2 next year.
One thing that does stand out from the results is that of the 21 games that finished 13-12 or 13-11 we only won 6. Somehow we seem to have lost a competitive edge.

19/7/09 Northern Pairs

A large entry of 24 pairs contested the regional pairs event at Bridlington.
The afternoon play was interrupted by torrential rain and a thunderstorm directly overhead.
Several matches were conceded between teams who were out of the running which was fortunate since parts of the terrain became unplayable.
When play was able to continue the final was a repeat of the 2007 final but this time the winners were Neill Rank & Mike Walkley (both Leeds PC) who beat James Hart & Luke Howard (both Mistral PC) thereby ending Luke & James winning run which had seen them unbeaten since 2005.

21/6/09 Northern at the Ladies Top 8

The Northern triple of Angie Gaughan , Chris Best and Clare Baxter were seeded 2 but after winning 1 and losing 1 of their first 2 games they lost the barrage play off game meaning they couldn't make the top 4.
They then won both of their games in the afternoon to finish 5th.

28/5/09 Northern at the Nationals

Only 4 Northern players decided to make the journey to the Isle of Wight for the EPA Nationals weekend.
The top performance was from Pete Best who played with Lisa Edmondson from East Midlands and they were runners up in the Mixed Pairs.

05/05/09 - Northern at the EPA Ladies qualifiers

There were 4 triples from Northern at the 1st qualifier held in Leicester and 2 of those also made the longer trip to Harrow for the 2nd qualifier.
The best result at Leicester was by Chris Best , Angie Gaughan and Clare Bicknell who won 4 out of 5. Although they were less successful at Harrow their combined scores for the 2 qualifiers was good enough for 3rd place overall so they will play in the top 8 event to be held on the 21st June.

05/05/09 - Northern Qualifiers

There are 19 teams entered.
The juniors will play against the team which would otherwise have a bye to increase their experience but these games will not count towards qualification.
The draw for the qualifiers will be a random computerised draw.
So that the paperwork can be done in advance the draw will be done on Thursday at the Wetherby v  Leeds league match where there will be 4 qualifier teams represented. The draw will then be put on the website on Friday.

15/3/09 - Final Winter League Event

The final winter league event took place at Wetherby in completely different weather to the week before with19 Pairs enjoying a lovely spring day.
The winners on the day were Ted Beetham and Matt Blyton which confirmed Ted as the overall league winner from Mike Walkley in 2nd and Alan Swift in 3rd.
