The sport is easy to learn and the commitment needed is small - check the basic competition rules below.
You would also be supporting St Gemma's who will receive all the 2008 entry fees.
If you work in Leeds why not enter a team.
Anyone wanting more information or advice about Petanque in general should try the Northern Petanque website.

COMPETITION RULES     click here for a print of these rules in pdf format

For anyone who hasn't played this competition before the basic rules are ;

  • Teams consist of 3 players but multiple substitutes are allowed to cover for holidays etc.

  • In the 1st stage teams are drawn into leagues of 4 so everyone should play 3 games in this stage.

  • The top 16 will progress to the next stage. (i.e. the top in each league plus the best runners up to add up to 16)

  • There is also a plate competition for any teams failing to make the top 16 - entry is optional - teams entering play a further 3 games in a random draw.

  • The 2nd stage for the top 16 consists of 4 further leagues of 4.

  • The top of each league from the 2nd stage goes through to the semi final.

  • The basic rules of Petanque are displayed on the notice board next to the Bond Court terrain.

  • The basic and full rules of the game can also be printed from the Northern Petanque website (link top left).

  • Boules are available for use at lunchtimes (no charge) from Centre Fillings which is in Bond Court.

  • Games are arranged by agreement between the 2 opponents usually at lunchtimes (games normally take between 20 and 40 minutes)

  • Bond Court is usually available on a 1st come 1st served basis but with the increasing entry we introduced a booking system in 2003 to try to avoid conflicts.

  • 2 games can be played side by side but space is limited at the top end.

  • Bookings will be shown on the bookings page (see link). The league details section (see the stage 1 and stage 2 links) will also show bookings as well as results.

  • To book - check that your planned time is available then email alan - northernpetanque.co.uk with the team and time details. The website will be updated daily. The @ has been replaced by " - " to stop the address being picked up and used in spam lists.

  • Results should be e-mailed to the same address, preferably by both teams.
