The York League is formed from several clubs centered on York. (Wigginton, The Saddle, Westow, The Fox, York RI, Wetherby & Leeds).
In recent years the league format has fluctuated between 1 and 2 divisions as the number of teams has changed.

The league format reverted to 1 division of 10 teams for 2010 and this continues in 2011.

The matches are played on Thursday evenings from late April to August.

The league started with each match consisting of 4 games of triples , each home triple played each away triple.
Between 2007 and 2009 this was changed to 1 round of triples (2 games - 3 points each) and 1 round of pairs (3 games - 2 points each).
For 2010 the format reverted to triples only and this continues in 2011
